New Glasses

After almost two weeks of waiting, we finally got the call that Susanna's new glasses were in.  So we hurried back to the optician.  She got bright red Snow White frames - so cute!  She looks very different in them - her last frames were light pink in color and blended with her face.  These stand out.  A whole new look:

We have been quite busy getting ready for our move.  Time is going so fast and there is so much to do.  We are starting to get our house ready to sell which is both exciting and sad.  We've only lived here for three years, but this really feels like home.  And of course I will miss all the space!  We have so many closets and cupboards and they are all full - I don't know what I will do with all this stuff - all my books, photos, etc.  I've been putting off even thinking about it, but time is getting short.  I'm also trying to cut back on our toy collection bit by bit and so far that is going well.  I'm just amazed at how full this house is - I really don't know where it all came from!

5th Birthday

On Saturday we celebrated Susanna's fifth birthday.  It was her actual birthday and her party day, and it was nice to have it all at once!  I can't believe our girl is five years old!  It has gone so fast.

We had a party at Universal Athletic Club.  We had their "Incredible Inflatable" party, which was a big inflatable obstacle course for the kids to play on.  We had a total of 17 kids, and it was crazy. I was glad we did not have the party at our house!  It was so nice to bring a cake and just show up for her party - they did a great job helping with everything and making it nice for her and for us.

Patch

We went to the eye dr. yesterday.  It had been exactly one year since our first appointment when we found out that Susanna has lazy eye.  She has been wearing glasses and patching her right eye for nearly a year now, with some improvement, but not enough.

Yesterday we found out that there has been no improvement from our visit in October.  In October, she had improved from 20/70 (in her left eye, WITH glasses) to 20/50.  Yesterday she still tested at 20/50.  So, the doctor prescribed an increase in patching, from 4 hours a day to 6!  This is terrible news!  Patching is a daily struggle for us.  Obviously she doesn't like it at all and fights putting it on.  She does however do a good job once it is on her eye.  Wearing it to school makes the time go faster, so we encourage that.  

After her appointment, we visited the optician and picked out new glasses - Snow White frames!  They are red with bows and say "Disney" on them, so of course they will be fun to wear!  Looking forward to their arrival in about two weeks.

Ben was tested too and his eyes seem to be fine.  He correctly identified most or all of the circles and squares they showed him, and he was given a diagnosis of 20/30 vision, which they seemed to think was just fine.

Bunk Beds

Okay, I feel like I need to make a new post...  Its been a while.

We went on a little pre-move shopping trip to Ikea a few weekends ago, and ended up with new bunk beds for the kids.  Since we don't know what kind of space we will have when we move, we figured two-beds-in-one might be a good idea.  The problem is, only one bed is "up high", and we have two kids!  What a dilemma.  

So, both kids are sleeping right now on the upper bunk.  The past few nights were spent together on the lower bed, but they couldn't be put off any longer.  I'm hoping for the best.  I do love how they insist on sleeping in the same bed every night - its been a few weeks now...  

Ben is great - he calls it the "tree top".  He loves to take his nap in his tree top.

No one cares that the room the bunk beds are in is freezing cold.  Well, I care, but there isn't much I can do about it, except make sure their sleepers are all zipped up.

In other news, Ben, who was in the hospital last week for wheezing (perhaps pneumonia or bronciolitis) has finally made friends with his inhaler, and requests treatments quite often.  Tonight, however, was his last required treatment, and I really don't think he'll be needing any more (keeping fingers crossed!).
