Knowing that the kids were starting swim lessons in September, we bought three new swim suits for Ben while we were in the States. The usual boy trunk-style suits. We also got new goggles at the suggestion of one of the swim teachers. So, we were all set.
The day before the first lessons, someone told me that Ben couldn't wear a trunk-style suit - boys need to have a tight-style suit. Fortunately that friend had an extra that she was willing to lend. Its actually cute - more like tight little shorts - not quite a Speedo.
Girls are required to wear swim caps - another surprise - fortunately they sell them at the school (the school is at the teacher's house.) Boys wear them too once they are a bit older, so Ben doesn't need one just yet. The swim caps they sell are pink or black with a shark design - very cool!
Lessons went well, from what I can tell. Other than a quick glance out the window at the pool, parents aren't allow anywhere near it. The kids go in a few minutes early to sit and watch TV while they wait for their lesson. Then they come out at the end. Unfortunately there isn't a community pool very close to us, but if we want to see how the kids are doing, we will have to find one. Hopefully they will make good progress.
